Buddha Sport Club wins Super League opener

BHAIRAHAWA, Jan 11: Buddha Sport Club has defeated Mat Khola Cricket Club by 31 runs to start the 19th edition of the Nepal Telecom Rupandehi Super League on a winning note on Friday.  

Earlier, Buddha set a target of 133 runs in the allocated 20 overs suffering a loss of four wickets after it won the toss. Bipin Khatari scored not out 43 runs for the winning side, while Akhilesh Yadav scored 30, and Sameer Hussain added 24 runs for the team. Similarly, Rupesh Kurmi took the highest three wickets for Buddha. 

Mandrum Chaudary scored 30 for Matikhola, however, it wasn't enough as other players struggled to score in the game. In the bowling department, Mohamed Rafik took two wickets while Arund Chaudary and Sarad Raya both took a wicket each.

Bipin Khatri was announced as the man of the match for the first game. The match was supposed to be a 50-over game, but the bad weather forced the match to be limited to 20 overs. 

The competition will run until February 1and is featuring 20 teams. 

The 12 clubs among of the 20 will be competing in the Division B from which the top four teams will qualify for the first tier. The eight teams in Division A and the four clubs from the second tier will make a total of 12 teams, who will go on to play in the Rupandehi Super League, says league president Prashant Bikram Malla.
