KATHMANDU, July 31: The search for climbers who went missing after an avalanche struck Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram range has been suspended overnight due to adverse weather conditions, officials said.
The search and rescue operation was suspended on Friday evening and will resume Saturday morning, weather permitting, rescue officials said.
Four bodies have been recovered so far, two of which have been identified as Omani mountaineer Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy and Nepali climber Purba Bahadur Gurung. Identification of the other two bodies is underway.

World-renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, popularly known as “Nims Dai,” is among those still missing. There has been no official information about his condition so far.
Ten climbers were reported missing after a powerful avalanche struck Broad Peak on Thursday. The search and rescue operation has been hampered by adverse weather in the high-altitude region, the risk of further avalanches and difficult terrain.
Purja is a record-holding mountaineer who climbed all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in the shortest time. The British government awarded him an MBE in 2018 for his contribution to mountaineering.
Rescue officials said the search for the remaining missing climbers would continue and that further details would be released as weather conditions improve.
