KATHMANDU, May 15: The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded that the government facilitate the Nepalis stranded in the border areas to enter Nepal without any risk of COVID-19.
NC, in a press statement today, urged the government to rescue the stranded Nepalis in border areas who returned home from various cities of India.
Furthermore, the major opposition party also drew the attention of the government toward making sure all the returnees are quarantined properly to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
NC is of the view that if the Nepalis stranded in India are to enter Nepal illegally, it would increase the risks of COVID-19 spread and they would also face problems of food and shelter while they relentlessly wait in the border areas to return to their homes. The government has been further reminded that there were many cases of COVID-19 recorded in the country that were contracted from those infected ones illegally coming to Nepal and appealed all to observe all safety measures against the pandemic.
Furthermore, NC’s Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, in the press statement, urged the government to fulfill its responsibilities with humanitarian sentiment and caution against the infection.
