KATHMANDU, Dec 20: The Supreme Court has scrapped all the appointments made by Prime Minister K P Oli after the dissolution of parliament on December 20, 2020.
Prime Minister Oli had made a number of political appointments after the dissolution of the parliament. Most recently, the government had sacked Province 2 governor Tilak Pariyar and appointed Dr Rajesh Jha in his place.
Although the apex court has scrapped all the appointments made by the government after December 20, it is not clear whether the appointments made in various constitutional bodies will be scrapped too.
The Oli-led government on December 15 had made over three dozen appointments in various constitutional bodies. The names of those recommended for appointments were forwarded to the parliamentary hearing committee only a few hours before the dissolution of the parliament on December 20.
Prime Minister Oli had introduced an ordinance related to the Constitutional Council after House Speaker Agni Sapkota and the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba chose to abstain from the CC meeting that is entrusted to make recommendations for appointments to the constitutional bodies as per the constitution.
