WALING, Oct 13: A 6-year-old local child who was being swept away in the Kali Gandaki river at Kedalighat in Sakhar-8 in Syangja district on Wednesday was rescued within a while.

Basudev Ghimire, who went out into the Kali Gandaki river together with his mother to bathe, was swept away by the waves some 700 metres downstream.

While the helpless mother Kamala Ghimire kept wailing and screaming for the help, a local good samaritan Resham Pokharel, by dint of his solo effort, eventually managed to pull the child from the river.

"The child was unconscious as he was carried away by the river," said Resham.

The mother-son duo have been staying in an elderly house in the locality.
Rescuer Resham was felicitated by local organizations for his act of kindness and bravado. RSS
