10 FUN AND PRODUCTIVE THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU ARE BORED

We all have those days when we are simply bored. We have played that game, watched that TV series, and even done some chores but we still find ourselves sighing and feeling lethargic for no reason. Here is a list of fun things you can do if and when you find yourself in that situation again.

Write postcards
Social media might have revolutionized the way we communicate and connect but there is something quite charming about a handwritten note. The next time you are bored, go buy a bunch of postcards with cool sayings or pictures, and send them to friends you haven’t talked to in a while. You will have taken care of the boredom and your friends will appreciate the sweet gesture.

Get creative with booze
You can spend a lazy Saturday afternoon drinking beer or you can get creative and make some boozy popsicles to share with your friends. But you will have to do some advance preparation for this. Simply soak gummy bears in vodka for 24 to 72 hours. Then once they are plump and saturated, place them in popsicle molds and fill with Sprite. The light clear soda allows the fruity flavor of the vodka gummy bears to come through. There are also many easy recipes on the internet that you can try when you are bored.

Do a puzzle
Did you forget how fun puzzles are? Working on a puzzle is a calming way to spend time together at home. However, this isn’t a one-night activity, so set aside a place where the puzzle can be left undisturbed. You can find mats that roll your puzzle up when you aren’t working on it. If you have a spare table that isn’t used daily, you could have it there on display and then work on it whenever you want.

Find a podcast you love, and then take a walk
A walk can be refreshing and invigorating. Download a podcast you have been meaning to listen to or an audiobook and go on a long, leisurely walk. If you think the roads at the moment are too dusty, think again. There are nice roads and alleys that are completely clean and make for good strolls. Go to Patan Durbar Square or Bhaktapur Durbar Square and explore while you listen to the podcast of your choice.

Make a vision board
Creating a sacred space that displays what you want actually does bring it to life. What we focus on expands. When you create a vision board and place it in a space where you see it often, you essentially end up doing short visualization exercises throughout the day. Work on your vision board and make it a project you go back to whenever you have some free time.

Learn something new
Learn something new or something that you knew at one point but forgot. Use your Google skills to learn about the mating cycle of salmon, how to use Photoshop, the life of Oscar de la Renta, the capitals of countries, or whatever else floats your fancy. The possibilities here are endless. If you are up for a little bit of discipline, then enroll in an online course and never spend a minute of your waking hours bored again.

Do some gardening
Planting seedlings and watching their growth is rewarding, as well as educational. You would need to do a bit of research as to what would be the best time to plant. The time frame fluctuates between various types of plants. Most plants take 3-15 weeks to mature to a level to be transplanted into a garden. You would want to know what type of plants you are planting and the time needed.

Start a blog
Starting a blog might sound intimidating at first, but blogging can be a great way to express your creativity and share your ideas with others as well as get rid of boredom. There are many different routes you can take with it (workout blog, food blog, personal life blog, etc.). Tip: Use Pinterest to search for tips on how to start a successful blog. This will link you to tons of articles that will set you on the right track.

Make jewelry
Learning to make jewelry isn’t that difficult. You can find many links on the internet that will teach you how to make earrings and necklaces. Visit your local craft store or department store and purchase some tools and supplies. Take your time and visualize what you want the finished product to look like. The jewelry you make can also be presents to give away. That is, of course, if you can bear to part with what you made.

De-clutter your home
Next time you find yourself bored and wondering what to do, survey your home or apartment and throw out things you don’t want or haven’t used in the past six months or so. As days go by, we tend to accumulate a lot of stuff in our homes and, over time, it leads to clutter and chaos. Look through drawers and cupboards and decide what stays, what you want to donate, and what you will definitely be throwing away. At the end of a few hours, you’ll find your home cleaner and your mind fresh and relaxed too.
