KATHMANDU, March 21: A book titled "Political Representation of Dalit Community 2007-2079" by journalist Laxman Darnal has been released today.
The book was unveiled by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at a program organized here to mark the 58th International Day against Racial Discrimination.
The book provides a list of federal ministers and parliamentarians, ambassadors, provincial chiefs, provincial ministers and members from the Dalit community. The people from the Dalit community who were elected in the local level elections held in May, 2022 are also mentioned in the book.
According to the book, the number of Dalit ministers so far is 34 (including assistant and state ministers) since democracy was established in the country in 2007 BS. So far, only 10 persons from the Dalit community have become ministers in the provincial government.
Likewise, the number of Dalit parliamentarians so far in the National Assembly and the House of Representatives is 167, members of the Provincial Assembly are 109 with one province chief and three ambassadors.
In the local elections, three municipal mayors and nine deputy mayors, six rural municipality chairs, seven vice chairs and 6,620 Dalit women were elected as ward members.
