NAGARKOT, Oct 26: Until few years ago, Bojhini was hardly a tourist attraction. No one from the outer world was aware of it except the locals thereby limiting its thrilling beauty to itself. These days, Bojhini situated in Changunarayan Municipality of Bhaktapur district gathers hundreds of tourists. Just 25 kilometers away from Kathmandu, the spot is thronged by increasing number of nature lovers day by day.

Residents are happy with the influx of tourists to the spot and attribute the newly gained fame of the spot to the recently constructed dam in the area. The large lake formed by the dam’s reservoir is surrounded by dense pine forest. Once people reach to see the lake, the natural ambiance entices them to spend longer time in its serenity and has been bringing them again and again, locals say.

“This place is fast turning into a great tourist destination. The dam’s reservoir became a significant element in boosting this place’s tourism potential. Most visitors initial come here to see the reservoir but when they reach here, the place’s natural beauty captivates them,” said Suntali Sunar, a shopkeeper at the site. “The number of visitors the site receives has been growing steadily over the months,” she added.

The site is far away from the hustle and bustle of the city’s crowd. The tranquil nature offers peace of mind to the visitors and clean air of the pine forest.

Sunar shared that domestic and international tourist throng to the site. Along with the outsiders, locals are also equally enticed with their new gift from nature. “Locals also come here with family and friends to enjoy the peaceful environment. So, this place is fast becoming a tourist favorite place,” she stated.

The newly made dam is Bojhini irrigation dam. Its reservoir’s water has spread in huge area of land. Sunar said that the dam came to form around a year ago and since then people gradually started visiting.

“In just one year, number of tourists visiting here has increased. Along with tourists, shops like ours have also grown in the area,” she said. “While some enjoy the serenity of the nature and return at the end of the day, some camp here overnight and enjoy the night with bonfire.”

During festival and holiday season, lots of visitors come here for enjoying picnic or to stay overnight. And during such occasions, Sunar hardly goes back to home. She gets busy in selling off her edible items to the visitors.

With the new place fast turning into tourist craze, new hotels and restaurants have opened up on the way. Even some resorts have started operation. Apart from the scenic beauty, the place also offers panoramic view of the entire Kathmandu valley.
Saru Nayaju, a Bojhini resident, terms the newly found love for the place as a ‘late discovery’. She asserts that Bojhini was always a very attractive virgin tourist destination and adds that was not known to the world in lack of advertisement.

“The construction of the irrigation damn and the reservoir it created, acted as the advertisement trigger. We expect the destination to gain more popularity in the days to come” she said.

Kathmandu local Sujan Khada, who was spotted roaming around here on Monday, stated that he frequents the place for joy and peace. The natural ambiance gives him positive energy, he says. “I had come here with friends at first. I fell in love with it. Now, we keep coming here for a break,” he stated.

Though the spot is connected via a road, for reaching the spot one has to trek for around 10 minutes. Nagarkot is just three kilometers from here.
