Body of boy missing in landslide recovered after five days

JAJARKOT, Aug 11: Govinda Pariyar, 13, who had been missing in the debris of a ravaging landslide since last Sunday has been found dead after five days.

Out of the nine persons dead in the landslide, the bodies of eight were recovered on Sunday. But the rescuers were unable to recover Govinda’s body. 

After losing his parents two years ago, Govinda and his brothers were living with his elder sister Sharmila in the house of Gopal Sunar, a local. 

At around 7:30 am, Govinda was doing homework when his house was buried by a huge mound of earth.

Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel were successful in finding Govinda’s body at around 11 am on Friday after intense hard work for five days, according to Rabindra Bahadur Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office (DPO). 

Similarly, Govinda’s eight years old brother Dashrath Pariyar along with  two more children of the same village Narendra Pariyar,13, and Nabin Pariyar,11, were also killed in the landslide. 

Likewise, Sitala Luhar, 25, and her daughter Bhagwati, 9, Ranjana, 6, and Manisha, 3, were killed after the landslide buried the house of journalist Tirtharaj Bohora. 

Bohora lost his eight years old daughter Najma to the landslide.

After losing two of her brothers to the landslide, Sharmila is wondering how she will raise her remaining three brothers. Following the news article published on Republica months ago, Surendra Sapkota, a Nepali citizen currently, living in Australia has been sending Rs 10,000 every month for Govinda and his other siblings. They were able to pay their rent using the same money.

The family members of the deceased have received Rs 100,000 from the central government, Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 from the Karnali Province government and Bheri Municipality, respectively.
