Bodies of eight people missing in Melamchi landslide found

MELAMCHI, Aug 3: Bodies of all eight people missing in Melamchi landslide occurred on Sunday night have been found.

Police Inspector at the Area Police Office, Melamchi, Phal Bahadur Tamang, said that of the deceased, seven are from Birgunj and one is Indian national. The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Chaurasiya, 42; Pradeep Chaurasiya, 35; Bikram Thing, 25; Man Bahadur Rumba, 23; Siman Ghalan, 20; Shiva Balak Dhami, 21, and Soman Lama, 17, of Birgunj; and an Indian citizen Rajendra Chaudhary.

Similarly, injured Indian national Baru Sah has been airlifted to HAMS Hospital from Melamchi Primary Health Centre for further treatment. Meanwhile, two persons died when landslide buried a house at Panchpokhari Thangpal rural municipality-2, Baruwa.

The deceased have been identified as Yagya Bahadur Chhetri Banjara, 40, and his wife Laxmi Chhetri Banjara, 40, said ward chairperson Pasang Lama. The incident took place when landslide following incessant rainfall buried their house on Sunday night.

The landslide occurred on Sunday night has made huge losses in ward no 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8. Nepal Overseas Chinese Business Association has provided mattress worth Rs 350,000 to flood victims of Bhotekoshi rural municipality. The mattress were handed over to chairperson of Bhotekoshi rural municipality, Raj Kumar Poudel, today.
