Bishrampur rural municipality chair Raut charged with vehicular homicide after 13 years

BARA, Dec 22: Chairperson of Bishrampur rural municipality in Bara district Amirilal Raut has been charged with vehicular homicide under the existing Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act, police said on Sunday.

On February 10, 2006, Raut was reported to have hit and killed a pedestrian Hasiya Devi Chaudhary with his motorbike (Na 4 Pa 3785) in Bara. Since then, he remained absconding.

District Court Bara had convicted Raut while slapping a fine of Rs 2000 and a jail term of 29 days.

Senior Superintendent of Police Bikas Raj Khanal told Republica Online that Raut has been apprehended and sent to jail earlier this afternoon. 

Raut, a local leader belonging to the then Forum Loktantrik party led by Bijaya Kumar Gachchadar, was elected the rural municipality chairperson during the local body elections.
