BIRGUNJ, Oct 8: Different groups have staged demonstrations in Birgunj to express their solidarity with the ongoing hunger strike of senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC.
Cadres of Nepali Congress, physicians, rights activists, and people affiliated to different organizations took to the streets on Thursday to pressurize the government to address the demands raised by Dr KC and save his life.
Dr KC, who started his 19th fast-unto-death from Jumla on September 14, is currently at the Kathmandu-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).
The government on Wednesday formed a three-member committee to hold talks with Dr KC. The committee led by secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Gopinath Mainali held the first round of talks with Dr KC’s representatives led by Dr Jiban Chhetri on Thursday.
