Birgunj Customs Office fails to meet revenue collection target

BIRGUNJ, Nov 30: The revenue collection from Birgunj Customs Office is in the decreasing trend in the first few months of the current fiscal year.

The country’s major customs office collected 85 percent of the total target in the month of Sawan, the first month of the current fiscal year, while the Office struggled to collect just 60 per cent in the fourth month of the fiscal year.

The Office collected Rs 12.99 billion against the target of Rs 15.2 billion in the month of Sawan.

In Bhadra, Rs 14.14 billion was collected despite its target to collect Rs 19.29 billion, Information Officer at Birgunj Customs Office Sumit Gupta said.

Likewise, the revenue collection from Birgunj customs point remained less by Rs 9.38 billion in Asoj. In the third month of the current fiscal year, the Office had targeted to collect Rs 21.88 billion but it collected just Rs 12.49 billion. 

In Karkik, the Office achieved just 60 per cent of its target, collecting Rs 12.92 billion despite the target of Rs 21.65 billion.

Information Officer Gupta said that government ban on import of 10 goods that contribute the most in the revenue collection led to reduced revenue collection here. 

Compared to the last fiscal year, revenue collection from the import of petroleum products decreased by 74 per cent while the tax revenue decreased by 69 percent from the import of vehicles.
