Bird flu detected in Bhaktapur again

BHAKTAPUR, March 12: Bird flu has been detected in Bhaktapur again. Bird flu has been found in the chickens of Suwal Poultry Farm run by Jagat Laxmi Sujkhu in Suryabinayak Municipality-10 of the district.

Last year, the bird flu was found in two farms of Suryabinayak-10. Chief District Officer Rudra Devi Sharma said that the samples of commercial layer poultry of Suwal Poultry Farm were tested at the Central Veterinary Laboratory (CVL), Tripureshwor, Kathmandu and sub-type H5H1 of HPA was found.

After the confirmation of bird flu in the chickens of the farm, the meeting of the District Security Committee on Friday has decided to control and destroy the chickens and poultry products of the farm as per the Bird Flu Control Regulation, 2022. The meeting has also decided to make the farm focal point of bird flu and take proper control of the poultry products such as eggs, grains and larvae from the areas near the farm and prevent them from being exported elsewhere, according to the Bird Flu Control Regulation, 2022.

Similarly, the meeting has decided to increase the intensive monitoring of poultry, poultry products and litter at all the entry points of the valley including Bhaktapur district under the coordination of Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Center, Lalitpur with the support of Department of Livestock Services.

Likewise, the meeting also requested the Department of Livestock Services, Harihar Bhawan, to provide services to the employees and workers to be deployed for bird flu control as per the rules and to provide compensation for the destroyed poultry products for controlling the disease.
