KATHMANDU, April 10: Bipul Pokhrel was elected the president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) through an election held on April 7.
Pokhrel, who was fielded for the post of president of the central executive committee of FNJ by a joint alliance of the Press Union, Press Organization and others, got a landslide victory with a total of 6,942 votes.

Nirmala Sharma, his nearest rival who was a candidate representing the progressive-inclusive alliance which included Press Chautari Nepal, Press Forum Nepal, among others, suffered a defeat with a margin of 3,027 votes. She garnered a total of 3,915 votes.
According to the final results announced on Saturday evening, the Pokhrel-led alliance clinched most of the key posts of the executive committee including vice-president (Ramesh Bista) and general secretary (Roshan Puri).
Gajendra Budhathoki, an independent candidate for the presidential post, received only 491 votes.
