Binod Das appointed DPL director

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: Former Nepal national cricket team captain and current Nepal U-19 cricket team coach Binod Das has been appointed as the tournament director for the third season of Dhangadhi Premier League. Dhangadhi Cricket Academy (DCA) confirmed his appointment on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: Former Nepal national cricket team captain and current Nepal U-19 cricket team coach Binod Das has been appointed as the tournament director for the third season of Dhangadhi Premier League. Dhangadhi Cricket Academy (DCA) confirmed his appointment on Tuesday.


President of DCA Subash Bahadur Shahi was ecstatic to announce Das as the director and was confident that the senior sportsman would bring new concepts and idea for the league drawing on his extensive experience in the field. 


“His achievements in cricket are sure to inspire us and I am confident of the league (DPL) reaching new heights under his guidance,” Shahi told Republica.

Previously, Das has served as the tournament director of Everest Premier League (EPL) for first two seasons. Similarly, the 35-year-old also performed the director’s role for Nepal national U-16 team and was announced as director for Kathmandu Kings XI, an EPL franchise, for the forthcoming season. 


Das has recently served as mentor and head coach for franchise Mahendranagar United. The team was knocked out in the second eliminator round last season.


Nepal’s first franchise T20 cricket league, DPL is set to begin its third season from February 2 next year, according to information given on Friday. The league hosted by DCA has retained Bijay Distillery as the title-sponsor for the second season in succession. The final will be played on February 16.


All the matches of DPL will be hosted in Fapla International Cricket Ground, a dream project of Dhangadhi known as Dream Fapla, according to the organizers. Previously, the Seti Zone Police Ground in the middle of Dhangadhi city was used as venue for the league.


Local team Chauraha Dhangadhi has won both previous editions of DPL. Sompal Kami-led Chauraha defeated Gyanendra Malla-led Kathmandu Goldens in the final last year. 


Rupandehi Challengers, Biratnagar Kings and CYC Attariya were other teams involved in last season.
