‘Bike Mount EVEREST’ launched for adventure tourism

KATHMANDU, Sept 29: Himalaya Expeditions has launched 'Bike Mount EVEREST', a new adventure tourism product, on the occasion of 40th World Tourism Day.

Issuing a statement on Friday, the travel company said that the 'Bike Mount Everest' is a cycling-based adventure tourism product which organizes a trek for participants to the Everest Base Camp like normal trekkers. 

“But on their way back, they pedal down rewarding themselves with one of the best and adventurous MTB downhill riding experiences,” read the statement. 

The product was launched jointly by lawmaker Pampha Bhusal, former tourism minister Yankila Sherpa, Nepali Congress Leader Madan Amatya and UNESCO Representative to Nepal Christian Manhart, among others, by unveiling trip dossier amid a ceremony organized in Lalitpur.

“Though the ride is technically difficult, it is extremely thrilling and adrenaline pumping. Despite difficult terrains of the Everest region, Bike Mount EVEREST is a perfectly safe and doable adventure if you have done adventure MTB elsewhere in the world,” read the statement. 

The trekking company also said that its team has already successfully completed recce of the trail some months ago and certified it for riding adventure activity.

Speaking at the program, Bikram Pandey Kaaji, the chairperson of Himalaya Expeditions, said that the new product intends to extend tourism activities in the Everest region even during the off-season –- June to September -– by offering tourists a whole new way of exploring and experiencing the Sherpa belt of the Khumbu region.
