KATHMANDU, June 13: Bibeksheel Nepali Dal on Friday expressed its solidarity with the recent protests in various parts of the country launched by the youths against the government's lackluster response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Issuing a press release, the party said that youths are voluntarily protesting across the country peacefully to exert pressure on the government to ensure good governance and essential services amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The government's apathy and incompetence toward preventing and containing COVID-19 and controlling corruption is reflected in the public frustration through the ongoing movement launched by the youths," the party said.
The party has claimed that the ongoing movement is non-partisan and its members have been taking part in the protests purely as civilians. In its press release, the party has appealed to the protesters to maintain social distance, use face masks and hand sanitizers, wash hands with soaps and take all measures for personal safety during the protests.
"We express solidarity with the ongoing protests and their demands relating to the COVID-19 prevention and containment," it said. The party also called for dissolving the high-level government committee formed to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and set up a new committee comprising experts. It also demanded that the government investigate the alleged corruption in the purchase of medical supplies from foreign countries.
