KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Bibeksheel Nepali Dal has demanded an end to appointment to top executive posts in academic institutions on the basis of political power-sharing.

In a press statement on Sunday, the party urged the government to appoint office bearers and other officials in academic institutions as per the recommendations made by the High-Level National Education Commission.

The party has appealed to the political parties, students, professors, civil society and various sections of the society to reject the political appointments in academic institutions on the basis of power-sharing.

"Bibeksheel Nepali Dal appeals to the government and concerned stakeholders to pay serious attention to the education sector which is directly linked with the fate of millions of youth. The party also has expressed serious concern over the sorry state of affairs of the education sector in Nepal adding that it has already lost its goodwill due to growing undue political influence.

"Vice-chancellor and other office bearers of the universities should be appointed without any political bias, which will ultimately help regain the goodwill of the universities and enhance the quality of the higher education," read the statement.

The party stated that the selection and appointment of vice-chancellors should necessarily be conducted through an open, rational and transparent review and evaluation process.

Bibeksheel Sajha Party's statement comes at a time when the post of Vice-Chancellor in Tribhuvan University is going to fall vacant as the four-year tenure of the incumbent VC Tirtha Khaniya is going to end in near future.
