MYAGDI, March 31: The Beni-Jomsom road, which connects the Himalayan district Mustang with the national highway, will remain closed till Thursday.

The District Administration Office, Mustang, in a notice stated that the ongoing upgradation work of the road section is likely to take additional time than it was anticipated earlier. “The transport service has remained closed for the past four days since Saturday morning will open only from Friday,” read the notice.

Assistant Chief District Officer Jagdish Aryal said that the transport service has been completely shut down till Thursday to expedite the work of upgrading and expansion of the road using explosives. Earlier, the road was scheduled to open on Tuesday.

The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road project under the Kaligandaki Corridor of National Pride Project connecting North and South has been closed at Kavrebhir and Kaikukhola in the border areas of the two districts. Travelers are requested to use alternative foot trails until the project is completed.

A meeting of stakeholders chaired by Chief District Officer Hiradevi Poudel at the District Administration Office, Mustang last week closed the road saying that the work of upgradation could not be carried out without hampering the transportation service. The 76-kilometer Beni-Jomsom road is being upgraded in four different sections. The project, however, will not affect the internal transport service of North Myagdi.
