Bastakoti, Tshering win Carlsberg Golf Series second leg

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Bharat Bastakoti and Tashi Tshering have won the second leg of the Carlsberg Golf Series 2019 held in Kathmandu on Saturday. 

Bastakoti accumulated 38 points to secure the top finish to become the Net Winner of the second series. SSP Rajendra Shrestha was the runner-up with 37 points. Similarly, Tshering finished as the Gross Winner with 36 gross points and Major Nischaya Rayamajhi was the Gross runner-up with 35 gross points.

In women’s category, Ashriya Banu was declared winner with 37 points followed by Kashmira Shah as runner-up with similar points 37 points but on countback. Banu scored 19 compared to 17 of Shah on the back nine. In the senior category aged 60 and above, Brigadier General Dilip Rayamajhi was the winner with 36 points and NB Rawal finished runner-up with 35 points on the countback after tying the score with May Bejoy Moktan. Rawal scored 22 on the back nine against 16 of Moktan. 

Likewise, Tenzing Tshering bagged most birdies with 4 and Dawa J Shrepa achieved longest drive along with Rabindra Man Shrestha who got closest to the pin respectively. After the second series Bastakoti is leading on the net category with 150 points ahead of Tshering (Tashi) with 105 points. Ajaya Bikram Shah is third on the leader-board with 100 points. Major Rayamajhi is fourth with 75 points and Shyam Simkhada is fifth with 70 points.

On the gross section Tshering (Tashi) is at the top of the leader-board with 150 points. Major Rayamajhi is second with 105 points. Prithvi Malla and Bastakoti are tied with 100 points each at the third position. Similarly, Tshering (Tashi) is fifth with 75 points. The tournament was played on a stable-ford format with ¾ handicap over 18 holes and 84 golfers took part in the event. The series tournament saw the country’s top amateur golfers out at the highest level of competition. This tournament was also opened to amateur golfers from across the nation having a valid handicap with their home clubs.
