Bardewa, Shrestha win skate-boarding championship

KATHMANDU, June 16: Gajendra Bardewa and Pemba Shrestha won the Third National Skateboard Championship in their respective categories held at Ktm Skating Park in Kathmandu on Saturday.

KATHMANDU, June 16: Gajendra Bardewa and Pemba Shrestha won the Third National Skateboard Championship in their respective categories held at Ktm Skating Park in Kathmandu on Saturday.


Bardewa won in men’s freestyle collecting 79 points to defeat Dheeraj Pariyar who had to settle with 72 points. Likewise, third-placed Sameer Wilson scored 71.7 points to miss out on second place by whiskers.

In women’s category, Shrestha (18 points) overcame second-placed Lorin Ray by 3.5 points. Similarly, Saleena Rai settled in third place scoring 9.5 points on the board.


The top three winners in each category received cash prize of Rs 5,000, 2,500 and 1,500 respectively.


The two-day event saw 16 finalists for men and 5 finalists for women’s competition. Qualifying rounds for final stage were held on Friday. 


The tournament hosted by Nepal Skating and Skate-boarding Association had 100 participants registering in men’s freestyle whereas 50 in women according to the president of the association Achyut Khanal.
