Banke road accident: Death toll climbs to 12, four critically injured (UPDATE)

NEPALGUNJ, June 1: The number of passengers who died in a road accident in Banke has climbed to 12 as one injured passenger died while undergoing treatment at the Nepalgunj-based Bheri Hospital.

Eleven people had died on the spot when a minibus (Na 5 Chha 5995) collided with a truck (Ba 4 Kha 9064) that was parked at the roadside. The accident took place on Sunday night at Thuriya of Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality-2 in the district. The ill-fated minibus was carrying nearly three dozen migrant workers who returned from India via the Rupaidiha entry point and were going to their home district in Salyan.

According to Chief District Officer (CDO) of Banke, Ram Bahadur Kurunwang, 21 injured patients are undergoing treatment at Bheri Hospital. Of them, four are critically injured, local police said.
