Banke police arrests 65 absconding defendants in a month

BANKE, Jan 19: The District Police Office, Banke, has arrested 65 long-absconding defendants involved in various crimes. According to the police’s report for Poush (mid-December to mid-January), these individuals were sentenced to a total of 19 years, four months and 27 days in prison. Besides, they were also fined Rs 5.15 million. The arrests were made by the judgment enforcement team across the district, informed Police Inspector Hemraj BK.


In addition to these arrests, police seized goods worth Rs 1.29 million that were being smuggled from India. Out of 117 cases registered during the month, 121 suspects were apprehended, with 53 cases resolved. Of the 681 complaints filed 668 were addressed, while 13 still remain under investigation.

The Banke Police collected Rs 2.47 million in revenue from action taken against 3,057 vehicles during traffic enforcement. Additionally, seven tractors, a tipper, and a JCB used in illegal river mining were seized and fined Rs 48,000. Three drivers were also detained for indecent behavior.


Police efforts led to the recovery of four stolen motorcycles and 10 smartphones, which were returned to their rightful owners. Among 44 cases of missing women, children, and senior citizens, 32 individuals were located and reunited with their families, while investigations continue for the remaining cases.


Likewise, as part of community efforts, the Banke District Police conducted 63 awareness programs to enhance public safety and cooperation. The report highlights the police's continued commitment to maintaining law and order in the district.
