HUMLA, July 5: A bank customer had to stand in queue for seven hours to cash his check at the Rastriya Banijya Bank's Simikot branch.
Kakal Bahadur Buda of Simikot-8 had to queue up from 9 AM to 3 PM to cash a check of Rs 5,000, as the bank faces a severe shortage of staff.
Government jobs and wanderlust
The bank deals with all kinds of financial transactions of governmental offices in the district but it doesn"t have enough staff which has affected its service delivery.
“As the fiscal year draws to a close, payment of all the governmental officials and teachers in the district is being carried out through the bank. The workload and slow Internet have created problems in providing services to other customers,” said the branch"s manager, Than Singh Bista. He said these days the bank is busy from six in the morning to six in the evening.
Bista said the bank has been making payments worth Rs 30 million per day.
The bank is supposed to have 10 staff but at present it has only four staff, leading to delays in service delivery. The bank makes payment to at least 80 to 90 bonded laborers, public housing, projects of District Development Committee and different government as well as non-government office every day.
The bank administration says that its customers have to wait for a long time as the number of service takers has suddenly increased.
