KATHMANDU, March 15: A Bangladeshi national has reunited with her family after eight years.

Bilakish Begam was rescued by Manab Sewa Aashram from the streets in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. She was handed to her family in coordination with the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka and Bangladeshi Embassy in Kathmandu.

Begam was rescued on June 4, 2017. Having suffered from mental illness, she recovered after receiving treatment and counselling from the Aashram. "She was infected with mental problem so much that she could not even tell about her family and relatives," said the Aashram Kathmandu coordinator Suman Bartaula.

The handing was initiated after a Bangladeshi businessman Prakash Tharu requested in this regard. Tharu approached Begam in course of his business dealings in the Aashram's Birgunj branch where she was kept lately after the rescue.

The family reunion process was made easier after she told about her birthplace after her recovery, said Bartaula. Her birthplace is Munsinagar of Narayangunj district in Bangladesh.

She flew to her home on Thursday with the financial support from the Bangladesh Embassy in Nepal. Her family reached the airport in Dhaka to receive her, it has been reported. Earlier, the Aashram rescued an Indian national and handed over the person to the family. The person parted ways with the family 12 years ago. The Aashram rescues and provides shelter to the helpless and orphaned people. So far it has rescued more than 1,800. More than 600 are taking shelter in the Aashram at present.
