Banda enforced in Lumbini zone in protest of murder

BUTWAL, Dec 20: The CPN-UML aligned youths and students in Rupendehi have taken out a demonstration in protest of the daylight murder of Youth Association of Nepal (YAN) – Rupendehi Chairman and Devdaha's youth entrepreneur, Durga Tiwari, by unidentified assailants. 

The students have announced a general strike in the districts within the Lumbini zone including Rupendehi from Tuesday in protest of the murder. They had taken out a demonstration and blocked transportation on Monday, YAN Central Secretariat member, Dev Raj Pokharel said. 

Pokharel blamed the negligence on part of the police administration for the daylight shootout that killed Tiwari and added that the agitation would continue until the perpetrators are booked. He said the agitation was not just in Rupendehi, but all the districts in Lumbini zone. 

The strike has disrupted normal life with long and short route vehicles staying off the road and educational institutes including factories and industries closed down. 

Tiwari, 36, of Khaireni area of Devdaha Municipality was shot in the chest by unidentified persons riding on a red Pulsar bike at Dekawar of Devdaha – 8 on Monday. Tiwari was heading home on a bike from Devdaha intersection when the incident occurred. Tiwari succumbed to bullet injuries in course of treatment at the Devdaha Medical College. 

Meanwhile, District Police Office (DPO), Rupendehi has made public a photo of one of the suspected assailants, Manoj Pun, citing his involvement in the murder. They have tightened security checks at the major entry points to prevent the assailants from fleeing. 

Tiwari's family members are in deep mourning while his wife and old mother fell unconscious upon hearing the news of the murder. RSS
