RAUTAHAT, Feb 9: The extraction of aggregates from the Bagmati River in Rautahat district has stopped, following an export ban imposed by the district court.

As border dispute arose between Rautahat and Sarlahi districts, the Rautahat District Court imposed a ban on the export of riverbed materials after district administration offices of both the districts agreed for the same. After the formation of the local government, the contract to extract riverbed materials from the Bagmati River was handed over by Brindaban Municipality and Gadhimai Municipality of Rautahat.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, Barahathawa Municipality had started claiming that Bagmati River is in Sarlahi district. After a border dispute erupted between Sarlahi and Rautahat districts, district administrations of both districts agreed to ban the extraction of riverbed materials from the river.
