Bajracharya, Khanal to fight for boys’ singles title

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: Samrakshyak Bhushan Bajracharya and Pranav Khanal are set to vie for boys’ singles title of U-18 section in the ongoing 15th Jayakar Memorial National Junior Tennis Tournament.

To book their places in the summit clash, Bajracharya and Khanal recorded 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-2 wins over Ninwam Rai and Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya respectively in the last-four matches at Satdobato Tennis Court on Thursday. 

Similarly, on the same day, Mayanka Rana earned hard fought win of 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 over her sibling Mahika in the semifinal encounter to set U-18 girls’ singles final clash against Prerana 
Koirala. 

Despite facing each other in the singles semifinal, the Rana siblings will unite to face the pair of Bijisha Shrestha and Abhilasha Bista in the U-18 girls’ doubles final.  The pair of Mayanka and Mahika overcame Prerana Koirala and Shubhangee Laxmi Shah in the straight sets of 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinal match. 

Similarly another finalist pair of Bijisha and Abhilasha registered 6-1, 6-1 win over Isha Shree Shah and Sharvani Shrestha in the second semifinal fixture of the U-18 girls’ doubles category.

For U-18 boys’ doubles title, Bajracharya siblings of Samrakshyak and Samyak will face competition from Pranav Khanal and Aadit Subedi.  In the first semifinal of the category, the pair of Samrakshyak and Samyak beat the pair of Saroj Tamang and Safal Shrestha in straight sets of 6-0, 6-1. 

In other semifinal of the category, Khanal and Subedi recorded 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kubehang Chemjong and Nischal Adhikari. 

Meanwhile, U-18 boys’ doubles finalist Subedi will appear in the U-14 boys’ singles final as well. Subedi who defeated Aryan Giri 1-6, 7-5, 6-0 in the semifinal will face Nisan Shrestha in the title deciding clash of U-14 boys’ singles category. 

Shrestha booked his place in the final overcoming Saroj Tamang 7-5, 6-3. 

Similarly, Pranav Manandhar and Aarav Hada will vie in the U-10 boys’ singles summit clash as they overcame Saksham Bikram Shah and Rajbir Pradhan respectively in the semifinal clashes. Manandhar saw off Shah in straight sets of 7-5, 6-3 whereas Hada beat Pradhan 6-1, 6-1.
