Bahrain prince and expedition team successfully climb Mt Lobuche

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: The expedition team of Bahrain prince has successfully climbed Mt Lobuche (6,119 meter) on Saturday.

According to Seven Summit Treks Pvt Ltd, the travel agency that is leading the expedition, the team of ‘Bahrain Everest’ successfully climbed the mountain at 8:50 am this morning. The team consisting of 27 sherpas, 15 Bahrain nationals and three nationals from the United Kingdom scaled the mountain.

This is the first ascent of 2020 in Nepal as the mountaineering activities were suspended due to COVID-19. As per the Seven Summit Treks, the team will be at Manaslu base camp on October 6 after it successfully scaled Mt Lobuche.

The team also consists of Mingma Sherpa who is the record holder for becoming the first person from South Asia to scale all 14 of the world’s highest mountains and Tashi Lakpa Sherpa who holds the title of the youngest person to climb Everest without using supplementary oxygen. The Department of Tourism had issued the climbing permit to the team, on September 22.

Mountaineering activities resumed in July after a hiatus of nearly six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Keeping in view of the possible spread of COVID-19, the spring season climbing was halted with the suspension of all climbing permits for this season as a precautionary measure for the safety of climbers.
