Ayushman Joshi and his inspirations

A hopeless romantic at heart, Ayushman Joshi loves the idea of mellow music that touches his heart, much like how he has touched millions of hearts with his performance in Chapali Height 2.  Shuvechchha Ghimire of Republica sat down with him to discuss his career and his studies.

Acting, modeling, and working as a VJ: how do you manage all of this?
Indeed, I have taken up a few different career paths but that does not mean that I am on three different boats at a time. At the end of the day, it is the same boat which is the Nepali entertainment industry.

How has your acting career been so far?
Acting has its own challenges. When I did Chapali Height 2, I took it as a challenge. It was rather difficult to render the different emotions of a seemingly crazy person; a character that does not demonstrate uniform emotions throughout a two-hour movie but portrays the same persona throughout. Whether I think the character was in every way Ayushman Joshi, is a difficult question to answer because we are made of few different sets of emotions that cannot be expressed by a singular movie character.

What are your views on formal education?
Adhering to the standard procedures of formal education–SLC to Masters–is not something that I advocate. There is no age-limit to acquiring formal education. I don’t have to complete my Masters by say 24, to realize my passion and attend a certain level of proficiency; I will take my time and get the university education when I want. I think this kind of freedom gives one a reason to take life more seriously and be responsible for his decisions. Even with acting, I learnt the basics of method acting on my own. It has helped me so far and I know I will learn more in the days to come.

A message to aspiring artists:
An important question that you need to ask yourself before starting a career in the entertainment industry is ‘What is that something in you that you want people to hear?’ People look up to you when you become an established model or actor, which is why it is essential for you to know who you are as a person and what you
stand for.
Also, remember to live your own life. Venture off on your personal journey and make sure you’re guided by an understanding of who you are and what you aim to be. While venturing on your career path, understand that there is no bigger failure than not trying. Doing something and failing at it will tell you what not to do, if nothing else.
