KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Aviation fuel supply has stopped at three busy airports including Gautam Buddha International Airport. The transporters have stopped the supply of fuel to Bhairahawa's Gautam Buddha International Airport, Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj Airports for seven days demanding an increase in fares.
The fuel supply cannot be stopped under the contract agreement with the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and the essential service recognized by the Government of Nepal, However, instead of taking action against the traders, who have stopped the supply of fuel, the NOC has instead issued a notice to the air service provider that they cannot provide air fuel.
NOC's Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj depots have written to all aviation fuel service providers to fill the fuel from Kathmandu saying that fuel cannot be provided except for emergencies. The domestic airlines companies have said that they have been affected by this behavior of the NOC.
According to the NOC’s Dhangadhi depot, they have run out of fuel. It has also notified all airlines that the fuel is no longer available at the depot.
According to the Regional Office of the NOC, the aviation fuel suppliers have also stopped delivering fuel at the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa. Navinod Pokhrel, Head of Lumbini Regional Depot of the NOC, said that fuel supply has been stopped at the airport, which requires 15,000 to 20,000 liters of aviation fuel daily.
