Avalanche kills eight mountaineers in Myagdi

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: Eight of the nine mountaineers who were caught in an avalanche have been killed.


The deceased include South Koreans and four Nepali mountaineers who had gone to scale the 7193 meters Gurja Mountain in Myagdi. The team was led by Kim Chang Ho.  According to Sam Prasad Chantyal, the ward chairperson of Dhaulagiri rural municipality-1 said that they have identified the deceased South Koreans by their facial structure.

He added that the bodies were found inside and around their tents. Status of one Nepali trekker is yet to be known.


The bodies are being recovered by rescue choppers. One of the deceased Nepali mountaineers is 29-year-old Netra Bahadur Chantyal while others are yet to be identified.
