In order to build a community with a shared future for mankind, we need to build an open and inclusive world of common prosperity. Similarly, we need to build a world in which we share weal and woe together. And that is possible only in a fair and just world.

China and Nepal are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers.  People from both the countries have shared connectivity, mutual benefit and exchanges along the border areas since ancient times. The magnificent and holy Mount Zhumulangma has witnessed the long history of exchanges between the two countries, and the vast Himalayas have become the bond of China-Nepal friendship.  In 1955, China and Nepal established diplomatic relations, which started a new chapter in the development of bilateral relations and injected new impetus into border cooperation between the two countries.

This year marks the 23rd anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to her motherland.  On July 1, 1997, the Chinese government resumed exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong, and that opened a new era, featuring the principles of “one country, two systems”, “the people of Hong Kong administering Hong Kong” and a high degree of autonomy. Hong Kong has since embarked on a journey of unity and common development with the motherland. Since its return, with strong support from the motherland, Hong Kong withstood the impact of the Asian financial crisis, the SARS epidemic, the global financial crisis and the recent COVID-19 pandemic, and emerged stronger as an international financial, shipping and trading center. It has made great progress in the economy, rule of law, people’s livelihood and other various fields.

In the age of globalization, humankind is living in the same global village.  The future of everyone around the world is closely intertwined. We have increasingly emerged as a community with common destiny in which everyone has a little bit of others. Confronted by the sudden outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), thanks to the Chinese people’s untiring efforts, the situation in China is increasingly trending in the positive direction. But unfortunately the virus is rapidly spreading across the world, and it is now a pandemic.  We are once again reminded that non-traditional security threats like infectious diseases, climate change, and financial crises have no international borders, and no country can stay immune.  Just as President Xi Jinping put it, “mankind is a community with a shared future. To prevail over a disease that threatens all, unity and cooperation is the most powerful weapon”.
