KATHMANDU, July 18: In its joint election manifesto, the Nepal Communist Party had promised internet access to all the general public and also free internet services at public offices across the country. Government policies speak of the urgency of increased internet access to narrow the digital divide. Ministers often talk about smart cities, for which cheap internet services are essential.

KATHMANDU, July 12: Paddy transplantation in eastern tarai districts is lower this season compared to other parts of the country. According to the report, paddy transplantation has been done on 30,625 hectares of land in Jhapa, 13,200 hectares in Morang, 11,000 hectares in Sunsari, 8,100 hectares in Saptari and 10,145 hectares in Siraha so far.

Plantation completed in 50% of paddy fields in 14 districts

KATHMANDU, July 4: Paddy plantation has been completed in 50 percent of paddy fields in 14 districts. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives, paddy plantation has been completed in half of the paddy fields in Kaski, Dolpa, Humla, Jajarkot, Salyan, Rolpa, Rukum, Pyuthan, Bajhang, Doti, Solukhumbu, Bhojpur, Kathmandu and Kanchanpur.

Five farmers to be honored with President Award

KATHMANDU, July 2: Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives is honoring five top performing farmers with ‘President Best Farmer Award’ on Wednesday. According to the ministry, Rajendra Raj Panta, who has been adjudged excellent farmer, will receive cash prize of Rs 200,000, while for others will receive Rs 100,000 each.

Paddy plantation completed on 20 percent of fields

KATHMANDU, June 27: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA)  halted all flights on Sunday while Prime Minister KP Oli was returning from his official visit to China. Both domestic and international scheduled flights were halted for 30 to 45 minutes. Some of the flights had to wait for an hour. Such disruptions caused by VVIP movements are always much resented by the public.

12-member team off to Toulouse to take delivery of wide-body aircraft

KATHMANDU, June 26: A 12-member team has left for Toulouse of France to take delivery of the wide-body aircraft of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC).  According to Nepal Airlines Corporation, they team will take delivery of first of the two Airbus A330-200 aircraft ordered by the national flag carrier. The aircraft is scheduled to land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Thursday.

No takers yet for midnight slots at TIA

KATHMANDU, June 25: It has been a month since Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) started operating 21 hours in a day i.e. till 3 am in the morning. The move was aimed at easing air traffic congestion at TIA by encouraging airlines to shift their day flights to night time or early morning. However, not a single airline has sought permission to operate night-time flights so far.
