NUWAKOT, Dec 17: The family of Bir Bahadur Tamang of Nagigadhi village of Likhu Rural Municipality – 3 is about to migrate to Aldanda, a few kilometers away from their original settlement owing to water woes. "Leaving the ancestral home is not a very good idea but there is no other way," laments Tamang.
NUWAKOT, Dec 11: Widening and repairing of the Galchhi- Trishuli - Mailung - Rasuwagadhi road, one of the national pride projects has come to a halt due to a controversy on the compensation amount. The project that kicked off on December 16, 2016, was supposed to complete in 22 months. However, due to protests from the locals over the amount of compensation paid to them for the land acquisition it remains in limbo. Concerned officials claim that the project might not meet its present deadline if the ongoing protests are not settled. As per the new deadline, the project should complete before February 17.

NUWAKOT, June 27: District Administration Office (DAO) Nuwakot has directed Siddhi Ganesh Oxygen Gas Industries to stop construction of its office and production plant.The office sent a letter to officials of the industry to stop all construction works, stating that industry was illegally extracting sand from the construction site in the pretext of building office and production plant.

Until few years ago, pottery used to be the source of livelihood for the Kumal community. Pots that were made by the community were exchanged for millet, rice, maize and other food items. For 95-year-old Laxman Kumar, a resident of Hasintar of Bidur Municipality Ward 5, pottery has been his entire life. People in the community used to sell their creations -- gagro, hadi, gamala, aari, diyo -- exchanging them with the quantity of food items that filled these pots.
NUWAKOT, Feb 28: As reconstruction has finally picked up pace in Nuwakot after a long halt, locals have started assisting each other in building their houses. Reportedly, nearly 80 percent houses in the district have been rebuilt this way.
