Despite being accused of abandoning their original ideology by their own elected localities, Maoist leaders officially celebrated the anniversary of the launch of People's War in Rolpa recently.

ROLPA, Feb 3: Just 10 students enrolled at the Chaturbhuj Primary School of Khungri in Rolpa this year. Since some of these students do not attend the school regulary, only five or six students are present in their classes on an average. ROLPA, Dec 25: Jaljala Multiple Campus in Libang, the headquarters of Rolpa district, has its own big building and enough classrooms and teachers. The campus runs undergraduate courses in Education, Humanities and Management streams. The number of registered students in the three streams is not that discouraging; there are around 100 students registered in the first year, 95 in the second year, 72 in the third year and 65 in the fourth year. However, the problem is hardly 25 percent of these students attend the classes.

ROLPA, Dec 22: A for army, B for bomb and C for communist. This was how students used to be taught in Rolpa schools during the conflict days. The Regional Public Education Department established by the then rebels had introduced the people-oriented education (janabadi education) and the curriculum was targeted for students from fourth to 10th grades. Most of the schools in the district and even beyond the border would follow the guideline. Whatever was taught then has now been confined to history.

ROLPA, Dec 17: One hundred and sixteen students had enrolled at the Janapriya Primary School of Dhawang in Rolpa at the start of this academic year. Nowadays no more than 60 students come to the school. School administration says that the rest of the students have dropped out. As most of the students don’t come to school on time, during morning prayers, the number of students present is even lesser. The principal of the school, Durga Bahadur Pun, says that the trend in his school actually reflects the common scenario across all the schools in Rolpa.
