GORKHA, April 7: The District Administration Office (DAO), Gorkha, has urged I/NGOs working in the district for post-earthquake reconstruction to pause their work until the local elections were held.
In a meeting organized by DAO, Jitendra Basnet, chief district officer (CDO), Gorkha informed the chiefs of various organizations not to do anything which obstructs the local level elections.
GORKHA, March 22: Rajani Miya, a primary level student was reading Nepali lesson loudly when another student, Binaya Baniya, started reading a story from his English textbook equally loudly. They would pause in the middle and look at each other and carry on. Other students were busy doing their class work in the same classroom. This classroom scenario was from the Nimel Primary School in Saurapani, during an afternoon last week.
GORKHA, March 11: Quake victims in Gorkha have been badly hit due to an incessant snowfall compounded by blizzards continuing for the last two days. Quake-hit VDCs in Gorkha including Barpak, Larpak, Gumda, Bihi, Lho, Prok, Chhekampar, Samagaun have received snowfall.
GORKHA, March 9: An earthquake victim in Barpak, Suka Bahadur BK, has received Rs 50,000 from the government as the first installment of house grant. Though the deadline set by the government to construct the foundation of house is closing in, he has not been able to even start the construction.
GORKHA, Feb 28: With the Free Students Union elections at least a week away, the All Nepal National Independent Student Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) affiliated to Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist has padlocked the gates of a college in Gorkha while an unidentified group has carried out explosion at another college in the district.
GORKHA, Feb 27: Sunita Nepali, 14, eloped with her boyfriend six months ago. Since then, the sixth grader of Chandi Lower Secondary School, Darbung, has stopped coming to school. The school administration is not aware where she is living now and whether she would resume school someday. A few teachers, however, reported that they heard of her marriage six months ago after which she hasn’t been seen in the school.
GORKHA, Jan 31: After nearly two years of the great earthquake, homeless victims of Gorkha are likely to receive new residences with the support of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA). But the association's condition has put the victims in a fix. The association has asked the victim families to manage raw materials for constructing their house on their own. For the victims the condition is very hard to meet.
GORKHA, Jan 16: When NGOs and INGOs reached out to the earthquake victims in Gorkha in the immediate aftermath of the Gorkha earthquake, they were delighted with all the tall promises these organizations made. They were hopeful that these organizations would fulfill all the tall promises they made and that life would return to normalcy pretty soon.
LAPRAK, Jan 12: In the past three weeks, Laprak received two heavy snowfalls that left the area covered in thick layers of snow. With the temperature continuously dipping down, there is no sign of the snow melting. The biting cold has made life very hard for the quake victims who are still living in tents that are thatched with snow.
GORKHA, Jan 4: Snowfall and the subsequent freezing cold in northern part of the district has brought life to a stand still. Most of the residents, who are earthquake victims and live in huts and tents, have remained indoors. Due to the extreme cold, schools have shut down stating that they won't open until weather conditions improve.
GORKHA, Jan 2: Life of earthquake victims in Gorkha has been hit by the increasing cold. On Sunday, several villages in northern Gorkha experienced heavy snowfalls while in other parts of the district sun did not show up through the day.
GORKHA, Dec 31: Prakash Bhattarai, 9, wakes up at four o’clock sharp every day. He takes bath, chants gayatri mantra and sits for mediation and puja religiously. Then he heads to the Bauddhik Gurukul Vidyalaya (BGV) for attending classes attired in dhoti and kurta.
