Australian Embassy in Nepal recognizes Australia Awards alum Sangita Dandekhya’s achievements in science

KATHMANDU, Feb 13: On the International Day on Women and Girls in Science, celebrated globally, the Australian Embassy in Nepal recognized Australia Awards alum Sangita Dandekhya’s achievements in and contribution to the science & technology sector. Dandekhya is a civil engineering graduate of the Khwopa Engineering College, Libali, Bhaktapur, Nepal.

KATHMANDU, Feb 13: On the International Day on Women and Girls in Science, celebrated globally, the Australian Embassy in Nepal recognized Australia Awards alum Sangita Dandekhya’s achievements in and contribution to the science & technology sector. Dandekhya is a civil engineering graduate of the Khwopa Engineering College, Libali, Bhaktapur, Nepal.


During her seven years of professional experience in science and technology, she has contributed to a variety of projects addressing environmental challenges related to water resource management, climate change and adaptation, along with the use of GIS.

To address the drying up of springs, which are a lifeline for communities throughout Nepal's mid-hills, she has contributed to research focused on spring management, and spring revival as climate change adaptation in the mid-hills of the Gandaki River Basin of Nepal. Also, her research on environmental challenges related to land and water sanitization has helped to understand the impacts of irrigated agriculture on groundwater resources.
