Significance of Janai Purnima

Brahmins, Chhetris and Vaishyas change their Janai worn across the chest on this occasion. Janai is given only to the males of Brahmins, Chhetris and Vaishyas during Bratabandha, a ritual of Hindu youths that should be performed before their marriage. Janai is the triple cord made of cotton. It is a symbol of body, speech, and mind. A doro (strand) is tied wrist on the occasion of Janai Purnima. People perceive that God will protect them if they use doro.

Senior litterateur Madan Mani Dixit cremated

Veteran litterateur and winner of Madan Puraskar Madan Mani Dixit was admitted to Sumeru Hospital in Lalitpur last week due to pneumonia attack. He was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. He was rushed to Himal Hospital in Putalisadak after he fainted at own residence. Senior litterateur Madan Mani Dixit was cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat in the capital on Thursday afternoon.

NCP secretariat meeting deferred till Friday citing PM’s health issues

The crucial secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has been postponed till Friday at 3 pm. Speaking with the media, party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha informed that the meeting that was scheduled for Thursday was postponed till Friday due to the health issue of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
