KAILALI, May 1: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that democracy and republic would be prevented from going into the single-party totalitarianism under any pretext.

At a news conference in Dhangadhi Airport today, the NC President said that the NC would be forced to take to the streets if attempts were made to impose totalitarianism against the democratic norms.

On the occasion, the former prime minister also criticized Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's activities during the latter's recent India visit.

He expressed displeasure for shadowing the tasks of opening border points in Gauriphanta of Dhangadhi, bridge construction at Parshuram of Dadeldhura, dry-port construction in Kanchanpur among others.

Asked about the NC's defeat in the recent polls, he claimed that NC cadres' morale has not degraded adding that the two-party alliance against the NC and party's internal feuds resulted in such outcome.
