Asian Eastern Regional World Cup Qualifiers from Aug 26

KATHMANDU, March 30: The Asian Eastern Regional Qualifiers Tournament under the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup is set start from August 26. 

The two-week long tournament will see Nepal taking on the host Malaysia, Bhutan, China, Thailand, Singapore and Myanmar. 

The T20 World Cup to be held in Australia will feature 61 countries that are divided into three groups from Africa, two from America, two from Asia, two from East Asia Pacific and three from Europe. The top 25 teams will then play in the qualifying tournament in 2019 from which top six countries will make their place in the seventh edition of the World Cup. 

The Western region consists of Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, the Maldives and Saudi Arabia. 

Earlier, the World Cup used to be held in a gap of two years. After the 2016 World Cup was held in India, the T20 World Cup also started being organized in a gap of four years just like the ODI World Cup. This is the first time the T20 World Cup is being held in Australia.
