CHITWAN, Dec 5: The anti-retroviral therapy (ART) has been proving a boon for the HIV- infected mothers who, with the help of this, have given birth to healthy babies.

The data made available by the ART Center at the Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan since 2010 shows that children born of HIV-infected mothers taking ART were all healthy. Now it can be said that an infected mother can give birth to a healthy child if pre-birth precautions are taken, the Center claimed.

Since 2007 to date, 72 children were born from the HIV-infected mothers and of them, only three inherited the infection from their mothers.

Until the end of the year 2016, five HIV-infected women delivered babies and all are healthy, the Center said.

So far in the district, 1349 infected have been officially identified and of them, 709 are male, 525 female and 113 children.

Presently, 672 people are receiving the ART services from the Center that is supported by AHF Nepal. RSS
