Art is everything

On the way to Kasthamandap, one can see him painting inside his small gallery. He began to sketch and paint when he was in 4th grade and he still continues it. Bijay Balami, 32-year-old artist owns Sunrise Art Gallery situated at Maruganesthan, Kathmandu. “I started painting at an early age. And I joined Lalitkala Campus for my high school but I set off to Saudi with my friends as we got an opportunity to work as an artist. I was in grade 12 then. I still remember the hardships I did for three years there. We used to decorate the ceilings and due to the hot temperature we would kind of drown in our sweat. After returning home, my brother who has a restaurant in Japan, wanted me to join him. I was going to take the decision to go but when I saw my paintings in my room and became emotional,” said Bijay.

He knew that he would not be able to continue his passion, if he went to Japan. And he didn’t want to leave Nepal. His love for art made him stay in Nepal. Since then, he has been creating paintings. And recently he started to teach art for children. He loves to paint landscape, portraits and more. He added, “I am addicted to art. It is my way of living. I couldn’t think of anything besides art. Art is my hobby, occupation and everything. Without art I don’t expect to be living my life.”
