Arrested MP Arun Chaudhary sent to jail

DHANGADHI, Feb 3: Arun Kumar Chaudhary, a member of the House of Representatives and civil rights advocate, has been sent to jail. He was taken into custody by the Kailali District Police on Thursday and produced before the Kailali District Court on Friday morning for a remand.

Chaudhary, who is on the list of absconding accused, was arrested from Baijnathpur in Banke's Kohalpur on Thursday. Chaudhary was arrested by the police and taken to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj. From Kathmandu, he was taken to Dhangadhi on an aircraft. It has been revealed that Chaudhary had been absconding after being convicted in an arson case over nine years ago.

He won the election to the post of MP by running as a candidate from Nagarik Unmukti Party in the House of Representatives election held on November 20. He had contested the elections twice before and lost both times.

On August 19, 2010, Mahadev Bajgai filed a case against Pasuram Chaudhary and Bir Bahadur Chaudhary, along with MP Arun Chaudhar at the Kailali District Court for torching his tractor on August 18, 2009.

On April 13, 2013, the Kailali District Court sentenced three people, Parshuram Chaudhary and Bir Bahadur Chaudhary, including MP Arun Kumar Chaudhary, to six months in prison.

The court also decided that the victim be paid Rs 800,000 in compensation. Although the court decided, the police did not take any initiative to arrest the three people and provide the victim with compensation.

Bir Bahadur Chaudhary was arrested on February 1, 2023 by the police.
