KATHMANDU, August 3: Advocate Bhagawati Pandey, who was arrested for making controversial statements, has been released from custody. The District Court, Kathmandu, ordered her release on Wednesday.
She was released after the District Court, Kathmandu did not provide permission to keep her in custody and conduct an investigation. The court did not allow keeping her in detention stating that Pandey had apologized and there was no condition to destroy the evidence. Now she will defend her case from outside of custody.

On behalf of Nepal Tamang Ghedung, Kumar Singh Ghising and Gyanendra Pun of Nepal Magar Association filed a complaint at District Police Range, Kathmandu, against the statement made by Advocate Pandey in an television interview. Pandey, who was absconding after the complaint, was arrested on Wednesday after intense pressure from the Tamang community.
Advocate Pandey had made controversial remarks during a television interview saying that marriages between brothers and sisters take place in the Muslim, Magar and Tamang communities. The Tamang community has been protesting against her statement.
