Army wins team championship in wushu

DHARAN, Dec 28: Tribhuvan Army Club wrapped up wushu with highest 10 gold medals at the Seventh National Games adding seven on Tuesday.  Departmental team also bagged four silver and five bronze in the same game. 

In the matches held in Dharan, Army's Oshin Rai  and Nima Gharti Magar won gold medals in women's jian shu qiangshu and nan quan events under taolu respectively. Similarly, Armed Police Club (APF)'s Kabita Thapa Magar grabbed silver while bronze went to Mina Glan of Army in the jian shu qiangshu. Central Region's Rashu Tamang and Eastern region's Anu Rai bagged silver and bronze respectively in the nan quan. Bijay Thapa, Hari Prasad Goley and Sabita Rai had won gold in taolu on Monday for Army. 

Army's other gold medalist were Chitra Singh Thakuri and Ram Chandra Baral in men's sanshou 70 kg event and 80 kg events respectively. Birendra Singh Kotari of APF and Western Region's Anup Khadka bagged silver medals in men's sanshou 70 kg and 80 kg events respectively. 

In the women's sanshou 60 kg event, Lumanti Shrestha of Army grabbed gold while silver went to Manish Rawat of Far-Western Region. Other two players from Army including Aruna Rai and Bindu Pun also claimed gold medals in women's sanshou 65 kg and 70 kg events respectively. Prinjita Tamang of Eastern Region and Jayanti Shrestha of Central region won bronze medals in those two events.  

Another departmental team APF wrapped up the wushu with total six gold medals adding five on Tuesday. Sushmita Tamang had won gold for APF in chang quan event on Monday. 

APF's Ashok Khaling won gold in sanshou's 48 kg category while Amar Sunar grabbed gold in sanshou's 56 kg event. Similarly, Mangal Prasad Tharu, Sanjiv Maharjan and Tej Bahadur Palli were other gold medalists for APF in sanshou's 60 kg, 65 kg and 85 kg events respectively. 

Likewise, Central Region won three gold, five silver and five bronze in wushu. Raju Lama snatched gold for Central region in tatsu kunsu all-round event while Kranti Lama won gold in men's 52 kg category and Njali Shrestha claimed gold in women's 52 kg event under sanshou respectively. 

Nepal Police Club claimed two gold on Tuesday alongside one silver and four silver. Prem Chandra Darlami and Juni Rai were two gold medalists for police as they claimed first positions in men's 75 kg and women's 65 kg under sanshou respectively. 

Alina Chaudhary won gold in women's 48 kg event under sanshou for Far-Western Region while Dipak Hamal claimed gold for Mid-Western Region in men's nan chuan all-round event. 

The wushu featured total 23 gold medals including 8 in taolu and 15 in sanshou events.
