Army Chiefs and Police AIGs to receive red passports

Previously, these senior officers were not entitled to red passports for official or special government-related travel. This provision has been included in the newly amended Passport (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2081.

KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The government has amended the Passport Regulations, 2077, allowing Nepali Army chiefs, Additional Inspector General (AIGs) of the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the Additional Chief Investigation Director of the National Investigation Department to use red (diplomatic) passports for foreign travel.


Previously, these senior officers were not entitled to red passports for official or special government-related travel. This provision has been included in the newly amended Passport (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2081.

The amended Passport (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2081 states: "In Clause (n) of Rule 10 of the Passport Regulations, 2077 (referred to as the 'Original Regulations'), after the words 'Chairman of the Provincial Judicial Service Commission,' the following positions have been added: ‘Major General, Additional Inspector General of Police, Additional Inspector General of Armed Police, Additional Chief Investigation Director of the National Investigation Department’.”
