On May 5, the government had entrusted the army the task of building the 76-km road project. Following the decision, the Nepal Army formed a special mechanism and initiated tasks to implement the project within four years.
Initially, the project was awarded to an Indian company. But following an interim order from the Supreme Court, the government decided to construct the expressway by utilizing its own resources and, awarded the project to the army. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 112 billion.
The much-talked-about expressway is likely to shorten the travel between the capital and the central tarai immensely.
