KATHMANDU, July 10: Apps on our mobile phones make life easier for us. From addictive game apps to time-saving date converters, those of us equipped with the right kind of applications on our mobile phones are dependent on these apps. We approach five young college syudents with smartphones and find out what apps they are using.

Roshni is always connected to the Internet back in the UK where she’s currently pursuing her degree in Software Engineering. Hence, she can use all sorts of apps, even those which require Internet connection, with ease.[break]

“I’m heavily dependent on my mobile phone apps. I use apps that give me the weather updates and directions. I find it very easy, especially when it comes to getting to places since I don’t have to ask anybody and can get reliable directions,” says Roshni.

Viber and Skype are the commonly used apps on Rojeena’s phone. “I mainly use Viber to talk to friends who are abroad,” says Rojeena who just finished her high school. She’s also fond of playing games such as Fruit Ninja and Temple Run on her mobile phone whenever she has free time.

“I haven’t been able to make a huge high score on Fruit Ninja but I play it all the time,” she shares. Rojeena also likes the Line messenger App because she can send free voice messages through it.

Anmol, who is currently studying Bachelor of Arts, has a Blackberry and one of his favorite apps on his phone is a game called Modern Combat.

“This is basically a multiplayer modern war game. We can connect to others who use the same mobile platform and play with each other. I would say this game is slightly addictive,” says Anmol. Apart from this, he also uses the Oxford Dictionary app along with the normal Facebook and Messenger apps on his phone.

Buddies Anju Gurung and Sony Manandhar are both high school graduates who love to play games on their mobile phones. When asked what game apps they use, Sony reads out a mental list. “Pyramid Box, Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Hangman…,” says Sony for whom playing games on her mobile phone is a time pass.

Anju also feels the same. “I play games whenever I’m bored, mostly at home and when there’sis loadshedding,” says Anju. She also uses photo editing applications such as PhotoWonder and Photo Editor. “I use Photo Editor when I need to make a collage,” she adds.
